Famous Night Club in Goa Demolished
Vasco da Gama, Goa
In December 2023 the High Court of Bombay at Goa asked the Department of Tourism to take immediate steps to remove encroachments from the public beach at Vagator and to restore the land to its original position. The Court said that the encroached portion may not be used for any commercial activity until it is razed.
On Saturday the demolition began in earnest with a major portion of a famous night club being first in line for demolition. Under the watching full eye of the local police, heavy duty earth moving machinery was used to complete the task.
The High Court had previously taken two writ petitions for consideration and passed a common order disposing them both. In a petition from Nilesh Phadte of Chapora, Nilesh said that he had prayed that the Department of Tourism be directed to demolish the encroaching structure put up by Antonio D’Souza of Ozran-Vagator.
Following the Court directions, a detailed survey was carried out and found that there were several encroachments on the public beach belonging to the Department of Tourism.
